We had a short but busy week this week. Our take-home science projects were due on Monday. Thank you so much, everyone, for participating! I was thrilled to see all of the different devices the students created. We had a bit of everything from airplanes to pinwheels to parachutes. Monday was raining so we had to wait until Tuesday to take them out for a test drive and we really lucked out with wind! I snapped a few pictures, but it was difficult to catch them in action:
We watched a third video in our Canadian Settler series for Social Studies. This one was all about building the homestead. This tied in nicely after our field trip last week. Next week we will begin working on self-directed (their own choice and at their own pace) stations to learn more about the First Nations' perspective and experience of early settlement.
This week we continued to work on getting our personal experience pieces on the Nicolle Homestead field trip ready for publishing. You may have noticed a few students' names listed on the side of the blog. These are students who finished their writing and have had the chance to post their finial drafts on their personal blogs. We will continue to work on writing and editing next week. We also took some time to write a poem to describe how thanksgiving touches each of our senses. Remind your child to share their work this weekend as you gather together with friends and families.
Thank you again for another wonderful week! Continue checking the Home Reading blog for the (week)nightly question. And remember to let your child do the typing! Perfect spelling is not a requirement - those skills will develop with practice.
Upcoming Important Dates:
October 14 - Library Book Exchange
October 15 - Taco-in-a-Bag Money Due
October 15 - FCC Food Drive Donations Due
October 17 - Book Orders Due (coming home Tuesday)
