Sorry families. I am a week behind in updating you on our classroom happenings. First, I would like to share some news with you that your child may or may not have already shared. Or if you have seen me lately, might have guessed on your own! My husband and I are expecting our first baby this March. I know this might raise some questions about my leaving and a new teacher taking over. So I also thought now would be an excellent time to let you know that I am currently covering a maternity leave for another teacher, Lisa Landgraf, who will be joining our school from Ruth Pawson School on March 23 as the grade 3/4 teacher. This means my last day will be March 20, which happens to work out seamlessly since I am due March 31. A perfect coincidence!
In other news, last week was Education Week. We kicked off the week with an assembly to get us pumped for celebration of our successes. On Wednesday we took 30 minutes to participate in school-wide reading buddies. Here are a few pictures of us reading with the 7/8s from Mr. Christopherson's class:

To wrap up the week, teachers were asked to nominate students from their class who were demonstrating excellent examples of success, Those students' names were entered into a draw for some sweet Roughrider swag. Each of the students in our class are successful everyday they come to school and try their hardest, so I looked for students who go above and beyond or who stretch themselves beyond their personal best. Congratulations to the following students whose names were submitted:
Everyone should be proud of the great work we do each and everyday!
This week we had a little Halloween fun with a pumpkin carving contest and a dance. Another congratulations to Sierra whose pumpkin won 2nd place! Here are some pictures of the spooky dancers I could track down in the gym:
- Kianna & Tianna - for always being the first to volunteer to tidy up our classroom, even when the mess isn't theirs. These two girls often do this without being asked. This helps keep our classroom tidy so we are able to learn in a positive space.
- Dania & Athena - for setting an example for their peers in their Word Work notebooks by following directions, writing neatly and organizing their work. This helps both of them be successful when learning new words.
- Alex - for setting a personal goal and achieving it on his math test. A special shout out to Alex whose name was drawn for a Roughrider notebook!
