Find an interesting word in your book and tell us what it means. Then write your own sentence using your new word! Remember, interesting words are words you have never heard before but don't include names or places.
Happy weekend reading! Pick one character from your book. Tell us how this character interacts with the other characters in the book? For example, how does your character treat others? Give at least two examples from the book to support your thinking.
Happy reading! Hello, 3/4s! I have noticed that nightly reading responses have been a bit of a stretch for most of us so I am going to adjust to twice per week to give everyone an opportunity to answer the questions each week. I am planning for Tuesdays and Fridays, so be sure to get on here a couple of times in between to check in with us and share what you're reading. I am really enjoying all of the responses and positive interaction!
Here is your weekend question: describe two predictions that you have made while reading your book. Explain what was happening in the book that made you predict these things. If you are just beginning a new book, make a prediction based on the cover and the title. Don't forget to tell us what you're reading! What has been your favourite part of your book so far? Explain why it's your favourite part in three or more sentences.
Happy reading! Sorry tonight's question is coming so late! I volunteered at the cross country meet after school today so I had to leave right away to get to Douglas Park.
Tonight we want to know what characters you've met in your book so far. Tell us the names and something interesting you know about them. Happy reading! *Since last night's post came out so late, it will also serve as your weekend post so everyone has a chance to answer! After reading tonight, tell us about the setting of your story (where does it take place?). Does the setting of your story remind you of any places you have visited before? Tell us how they are similar!
Happy reading! What book are you currently reading at home? Share the title, the author's name and one reason you thought it was a "Good Fit" book for you.
Post your response in the comments. Happy reading! Some families were asking about a home reading program so I've spent sometime thinking about ways to make this more meaningful to students. Traditional Reading Logs seem to be more of a turn-off for young readers than a help so I have come up with something new I would like to try!
Each night I will pose a general question for my home readers to comment on. Parents, we will need your help with this the first time. Students only need to fill in their name and their comment (response) - no email address is required. They will also have the option to reply to another student's comment if they have something to add to the discussion. My hope is that this will generate some interesting discussions around reading and also give students a chance to practice their writing skills. We will begin this new venture on Friday to give you a chance to squeeze in some reading time and play around with the blog over the weekend. Happy reading! |
